Dinner and a thought...

We just had dinner. Roast chicken, fingerling potatoes, baby carrots, salad... and every bit we raised or grew and harvested ourselves. That feels.... pretty amazing. :)

It's one of the reasons, among many, I love living here. I also enjoy watching everything grow. However, I don't think the neighbours would appreciate a chicken coop in my backyard...

True Dale... though if you only had a few hens you could get eggs and they would not be noisy! The roos are the troublemakers...
I feel so doubly blessed to be living here at the ranch. It is a lot of work but the rewards are so much greater! xoxo

I've begun to think seriously about a coop. We've got the space and it would be so nice having farm-fresh eggs again. I've been planting an herb garden for the past few years, along with tomatoes and the odd veggies. Because of the deer, I have to keep everything in pots on the deck, but that's perfect - not too many steps away.
Some day I might find the energy to build a proper fenced garden plot, with the requisite "garden gate"!

I used to have a whole bunch of tomatoes on the deck at the house in Wilmer! We have been pretty lucky with deer staying away (the dogs) but the chickens... now that is a different issue! Fencing in next year. Mind you we will have brave deer in a week or two I think... as long as I harvest everything in time should be ok! My other saving grace is the oats in leftover in the field past the garden. :)
