Cancer knows no boundaries, does not discriminate, touches us all...
I am putting this on my blog, but guys, don't feel obligated... I am just making sure I put out the word everywhere I can! This is a copy of what my Relay For Life webpage has on it.
xxx
I am asking for your support in my effort to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay For Life here in the Columbia Valley.
I have always been involved with the relay, but this year it has taken a more personal note for me: my step-father, whom I loved dearly, died of cancer this past November.
I am asking for pledges not only because I will be in the relay on Saturday, June 9, but because I have committed to shaving my head and donating my hair to be made into a wig for children with cancer. Here's to hoping I have a nice head under all that hair!
My goal: $10,000. All and any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.
It's so easy to donate: just follow the link below. You can donate on-line or download a form and send in your donation. Please leave your email address behind so I can thank you personally… and send you an after photo of me minus the long red hair!
So few of us have not been touched by cancer in some way…
With heartfelt thanks,
Stevie
If you would like to donate, or just check out the relay, copy and paste http://www.kintera.org/faf/home/default.asp?ievent=211515&lis=0&kntae211515=026E462036C447EEBDAAE7DB566100D9 into your browser. My team is called The Summit Sweethearts, and my full name is Stephanie Stevens, if I haven't told you already!

I've often wondered what my head really looks like...
Brave you - but you'll have to tap me on the shoulder or shake me so's I recognise you!
My mum had breast cancer, although she lost a breast, the cancer has stayed away for over 30 years now.
My best friend had cervical cancer and, after chemo and radiation therapies, she is still cancer-free.
They are the lucky ones.
I think we should raise funds to develop a more humane way to treat the ailment...
Hey Dale!
I am still waffling over razoring after the initial shave or not! If I am going to do it, why not go all the way and shave off the stubble...
what do you think?
Consider it done- I'll follow the link this weekend.
I lost my dad to cancer six years ago this week, so I'm more than happy to support any endeavour towards finding a cure.
I think it's brilliant that you're donating your hair. Good luck on the relay too!
xx
AM
Thank you so much Anne-Marie! I am getting pretty excited, I have to admit. I just did a photoshoot with journalist friend for a story for the paper and I am going to put one of the shots on both sites. It was tons of fun, showcased my hair of course so I will remember it when it's all gone!
xx
hey steph.
i want to pledge some money with you, but i can't do it online. can you come to the cafe and i'll give you like $20? i bought a luminary today! yay! i am proud of you for doing this, because it's very important. i think cancer has affected mostly everyone, including me. my dear grandpa.
anyways, i would like to donate some money for you.
Kori!
thank you so much Darling Lovely! Are you going to come up and watch me lose my hair?
xoxoxox
Stevie! your beautiful hair!...
But i'm sure you will look even more beautiful with it shaved off..thats a very brave and wonderful thing you are doing..
And with the money you save on shampoo and conditioner, you can buy more chocolate teddys!..
I hope it all goes well and brings awareness to so many more..
I will try and make a donation online...
I will make a donation too Stevie. You are a honey to donate your beautiful hair. At least yours will grow again, though. I guess we have to think of those who suffer the dreadful effects of chemotherapy but still don't recover. Bless you for your selflessness.
Stevie, You are so brave! I, too, have wondered how I would look sans hair. Not brave enough to find out, however; and I don't have the mane that you do....you know, they say it grows back thicker....hmmmm. But Val's right, the awareness is that, for us, it will grow back.
My family has had some close calls with cancer, but nothing serious. My dad has had several basal cell (non-malignant) carcinomas removed from his face. If I get through my own life without at least as much, I'll be extremely lucky. I've been so stupid about sun exposure in my day.
I'll be making a donation, Stevie; and I so salute you for doing this. Hayley thinks it's incredibly cool as well.
Go for it, Steph!
After all, what's a millimetre or two...
Then you can polish it up.
Hip Hip!!..i did it! after several failed attempts i managed to make a donation..
you look like such a minx in that pic stevie..you really do..
ah geez, you guys are so sweet! I got all teary when I saw your names on my donation page scroll! You know your names on that, right?
thank you all a million times, a thank you for each follicle about to seek a new home!
Hey Stevie, it's worth it, and you are worth it. Nearly everyone has been touched by cancer somehow. My grandad died of cancer before I was even born, and my dearest and closest friend in South Africa (before I met Moira) died of breast cancer - she was thirty six. It was the first time I realised that there are diseases you sometimes cannot cure. Maybe with your help, they will be able to one day.
Thanks Val... I will buy a luminary for all of you for the sunset ceremony. Luminaries are paperbags with sand in the bottom, and a candle, and the name of either someone lost to cancer, or someone who has beat it. They are placed all around the track we walk/run and at sunset, we light them. They glow all night, shining with the names of loved ones. I am going to buy one for my blog family, and take a photo of it for you.
Gypsy, looking like a minx is a good thing, right? ;)
Of course stevie, i-yes i know-i have been discribed as a minx so i use the term with great honour to you..
oh and my mam died of cancer at 59 when i was 22..so i'd love to think the was a little twinkle in the candle for her x
her name was Ivy glenton..
oh bother im getting all teary now..
And neils mum Doreen Emery died last june of cancer..
Oh Gypsy... there will be such a twinkle for your mam... and Neils's as well (um... who is Neil?)
if anyone else would like me to get a luminary for someone you love, let me know who...
I haven't made my own donation yet, so this is a perfect way for me to do it. I have four I am buying myself.. and they can either be in memory or in honour of it the person is fighting or has won... I am happy to do it, so do send me the names...
Steph - call me?
I love Neil.
Dale... I am just now home... I am such a night owl... I don't want to call so late in case you are managing a good night's sleep. If you are up, call me, and if not, I will call you in the morning...
Wow that is so brave!! Could you make an extra wig for me too my hair refuses to grow!!
Thanks for coming to my page and erm less of the nookie lol I've only just got back into my jeans, maybe next year ;)
